Polyamory
I have the rather odd situation of having to come out, up to three times (sometimes more!), to every new person I make friends with. As I am new to Freedom Requires Wings, I guess it’s time for me to come out again!

I am polyamorous, as in I have more than one partner, with whom I share a committed loving relationship with. I have a male partner G, who I have been with for 15 years, and a new girlfriend S. Just to confirm both are also free to see other people, if they so wish.

Secondly I am kinky, that is I am into the BDSM scene. Not everyone gets told this straight away, but I am probably more open about my sex-life than most. For the uninitiated there are definitely more than 50 shades of grey and BDSM is a three layer cake as follows: Bondage/Discipline,  Domination/submission and Sadomasochism. I view the fetish scene as about emotional and sexual freedom, not abuse. Abuse does happen, but I will talk about that another time.

Thirdly but not quite last, I am Bisexual. I am prepared to admit that I probably set Bi acceptance back a few paces, by really actually having one of each and openly admit I am greedy. But trust me, nearly all Bi people are monogamous. So all of the above does not make finding dates any easier, as I have quite a few boxes to tick before I can say ‘Hi there!’.

I wanted to write for Freedom Requires Wings, because I am very passionate about equal rights for all. I am very happy to report about my experiences of the above and have experience of other areas surrounding the topics of acceptance and gender identity.

On a personal level I have experienced discrimination from within the LGBT community due to being poly and kinky. Also my girlfriend is trans, so I have gained a close insight into gender identity and the issues surrounding transitioning.

Beyond poly, kinky and LGBT issues, I also suffer from mental health problems. I have several psychiatrists and support workers, and take lots of medication. And that’s my final subject as regards as coming out is concerned, and is sadly the one that causes me the most problems. I hope through writing this weekly blog, I can help others with mental health problems in the wider LGBT community gain acceptance and understanding.

Finally I would like to add that none of the above completely define me, I am also a keen writer, a student of History, English, Maths and Welsh. As well as a goth girl who has three crazy cats, who lives in Wales and worries about politics a little too much.

In my next blog I plan to write about being polyamorous and how you can make open relationships work. The differences between swinging, open relationships, polyamory, and other forms of non-monogamy. Thanks for reading.
